The 2023 Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour

Everything emerges in spring, including the art

April 21, 22, 23, 2023, 10am - 5pm

Spring is white mountains, green valleys, and pink hills studded with blooming fruit trees and a rainbow of wildflowers. More emerging beauty comes in the form of art, because spring is also the Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour.

This annual tour, now in its 17th year, features 40 local artists showcasing a diverse variety of work - from painting to ceramics, jewelry to textiles, wood working to photography, metalwork to glass, and more.

Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour invites art lovers to meet artists in their studio spaces - to experience art as work, craft, process, and inspiration. It is a free, self-guided tour of individual artist studios and work spaces located throughout the Mid-Columbia Gorge regional area. Featured artist's studios are dotted on the map in all four mid-Columbia counties: Skamania, Klickitat, Hood River, and Wasco. Take advantage of the three days, April 21 to 23, to visit as many studios as you can. Or, if you have limited time, just drop in to a select few linked together by a stunning drive through the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

This event is a favorite for me certainly, but has also become highly anticipated for the folks who have marked their calendars to come visit the Gorge for this special weekend. They are inspired by our spaces, curious to see our process, excited to see what's new!” says Melanie Thompson,  ceramicist.

On a studio tour, the senses are engaged: Smell the sawdust; see the materials, mastery, and craftsmanship; touch the unique and handmade objects; feel the creative energy of artists in their studios. Where else but on a tour of artists studios can you experience art this way? And where else but in the stunning Columbia River Gorge can you wind through forest, alongside orchards in bloom, across rivers, up into the hills, and back in time to find something delicious in town for lunch? Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour is unique.

Gorge Artists Open Studios put the Gorge on the map as an Arts destination, and I have cherished being a part of the tour for many years,” notes Christine Knowles, pastel artist.

Visiting from out of town? Come for Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour and stay for the weekend! April is blossom time, when the local surrounding orchards are flocked with rows of pink and white. The mountains are still pristine and draped in snow, while the greening hills burst with wildflowers. Spring is the time of year when everything emerges once more, including people. Experience the natural beauty of the Gorge while enjoying fantastic local food, wineries, outdoor recreation, shopping, and a great selection of boutique hotels and bed & breakfasts.

We invite you to come experience the Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour. To see what’s in store for this year’s experience, make sure to follow us on social media @gorgeartists or visit our website at www.gorgeartists.org.
