Event Description
February 10, 2024 February Forum
“Rooted: The Lives of Amos and Hannah Root, Pioneers of Mosier” is the topic of the second program of the Original Wasco County Courthouse 2024 history forum.
The program begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the 1859 Courthouse, 410 West 2nd Place in The Dalles.
Research into the lives of her great-grandparents led retired teacher Doris Smith to write her recently-published book “Rooted.” She chronicles the life of her ancestors using family memoirs, articles from historic newspapers, and old black and white family photos. After eloping, Amos and Hannah headed west. They settled in Mosier where they lived for 45 years, improving their farm, rearing eight children, and becoming an integral part of their small community. Admission to the program is free but donations are welcome. There is a TV monitor on the ground floor to serve those unable to climb the stairs. Coffee and cookies will be served after the program. 2024 programs can be viewed as YouTube videos on the Original Courthouse website. (Photo from Discovery Center collection)
