Wasco SWCD works with landowners on a voluntary basis on many kinds of projects that produce benefits for soil, water, plant communities and wildlife habitat. The Conservation District works throughout Wasco County’s several ecoregions, from forest, to oak woodlands, to the sagebrush steppe. They work with acreages of all sizes, from backyard habitats to commercial farms and ranches, and have held workshops for homeowners on soil health, xeriscaping, streamside stewardship, and woodlands management.
Wasco SWCD also holds a yearly “Tree Sale” in early March, offering bareroot native tree and shrub species for homesteads, gardens, and farms, for beautification, wildlife benefits, pollinators, stream buffers, and many other purposes. What natives could you incorporate into your own garden?
Karen has nurtured a love for native plants since her teens, and previously managed the native plant department at a nursery in Oregon for several years. She has worked for Wasco SWCD since 2002, as a Conservation Planner since 2004, as well as hosting workshops for the Conservation District about conservation landscaping, integrated biological pest management, and other landscape planning topics.
Come join us and learn about conservation of the natural resources in Wasco County.
