Event Description

Bull of the Woods fire lookout in Mt. Hood National Forest was scheduled for restoration when it was consumed by wildfire in 2021.  Lookout towers will be featured in the first Regional History Forum program at the Original Wasco County Courthouse Saturday, Feb. 1.  Barbara Telfer of The Dalles spent three summers staffing lookouts, and Rick McClure of Trout Lake was a Forest Service archaeologist, and in retirement, serves on an organization that preserves and protects remaining lookouts.  “Fire Lookouts:  Personal Reflections, History, and Preservation” is title of the program that begins at 1:30 p.m. in the courtroom of the 1859 Courthouse, located at 410 W. 2nd Place, The Dalles.  (U.S. Forest Service photo, 1956)   ###

Wasco County Historical Society invites representatives from Wasco County's historical organizations to attend its annual HISTORY AFTER HOURS, Thursday, February 13th, 5-7:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Chapel, Fifth & Union Streets.

Each organization will be asked to briefly share its 2025 plans.  Cake, celebrating Oregon's 166th birthday, will be served.
