Second Saturday
Please join us! Ride in antique cars, watch the antique planes take off and land, enjoy living history at its finest!
Join us the Second Saturday of each month when WAAAM gets the engines running. Action occurs between 10am and 2pm. Lunch is served between 11am and 1pm.
Second Saturdays throughout the winter will be held indoors. Weather permitting, cars and airplanes will be taken outside. Otherwise, there will be indoor events including demonstrations, special exhibits and hands on experiences for visitors.
Our antique aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, tractors, military jeeps and engines all get their day in the sun when museum volunteers get to show visitors that this is not just a bunch of old, dead stuff ... that life goes on for our artifacts!
What Our Volunteers Have to Say:
"A visit to WAAAM on a Second Saturday is bound to make you realize just how easy life is today. Take for instance, the process of starting a car. People don't even give it a thought these days, but in 1917, it may have taken a half an hour just to get the oil warm enough to crank a Model T's engine to life!
"Life was certainly slower in those days, and knowing about how life was back then helps us appreciate so much more what we have today.
"Please join us on a Second Saturday of the month ... or on any day ... and take a step back in time with us."
—Judy Newman, WAAAM Volunteer

The pomp, majesty and beauty of English music have enraptured music lovers for well over a century. Now, local audiences can hear what so many have discovered, as the Gorge Sinfonietta presents The Glory of England on November 17 at 7 PM and November 19 at 2 PM at the Wy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center in Odell.
Sinfonietta conductor Mark Steighner says that The Glory of England focuses on the music of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. “This was the so-called second English renaissance, when a new generation of British composers utterly transformed the musical landscape,” Steighner said. “Folk music was rediscovered and world music from as far as Japan found its way into the music of composers like Arthur Sullivan.”
At the heart of the Glory of England program is Gustav Holst’s epic suite for orchestra, The Planets. “The Planets has been called the ‘best piece of English orchestra music ever written.’ It’s hard to overstate how powerful, innovative and influential it is, and has been on later generations of film composers.” The Planets is a musical description of Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. “Holst had just discovered astrology, so the musical identity of each planet is not just based on astronomy, but the mythical character as well.”
The concert also includes the Overture to Pirates of Penzance, Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March #1 (famous at graduation ceremonies everywhere) and selections by George Butterworth and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Steighner said, “All of our programs this season are accessible and easy to love. They’re all great concerts to bring friends and family to, especially those that might not have heard the Sinfonietta or other CGOA ensembles.”
The Glory of England concerts are Friday, November 17 at 7 PM and Sunday, November 19 at 2 PM in the Wy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center in Odell, OR. Tickets are $25 adults ($15 for CGOA members), $5 for youth ages 10-17 and free for kids under 10. $5 tickets are available for SNAP/Oregon Trail card holders. Tickets and more information is available at gorgeorchestra.org
The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and presenting musical performances of the highest quality in the Columbia River Gorge region. With a commitment to artistic excellence and education, the Association brings the joy of music to audiences of all ages.
The Archaeology Roadshow is a large-scale public outreach event held on PSU campus and in other communities in Oregon, designed to promote stewardship of Oregon’s heritage and educate adults and children about the value of archaeology to all citizens. The archaeology fair-like experience brings together community organizations (tribes, federal and state agencies, private companies, avocational organizations), and PSU students and faculty who host hands-on activities that relate to heritage, science, and Indigenous history and contemporary tribal interests in our region. The Roadshow grew out of a 2012 Public Archaeology class project that took place in Cramer Hall and attracted 180 visitors. We have since grown in many ways -- including providing support to partners in Harney County and Bend to host Roadshow events in their communities. We hope to expand to other communities in the future.
The Archaeology Roadshow has many layers of benefits. The public learns more about our region’s rich and complex human past and its connections to us today. Visitors also learn about the range of organizations that are engaged in archaeology and heritage activities -- and why this work truly matters to us all. Participating college students learn about the importance of public engagement through creating an exhibit of their own. The Roadshow also provides an opportunity for organizations to address their own public outreach goals and at the same time, forges connections among individuals and organizations in our state who are passionate about heritage, site stewardship and public education.
The Mid-Columbia Senior Center's annual holiday bazaar will take place November 18th between 9 AM and 3 PM. We'll have raffles, booths, sales, and more!
