| 2/4/2026 | February 4th, 11th, 18th and March 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th Join us this winter for Looking Closely at Art, a thoughtful seven-week exploration of how and why we connect with visual art. Designed for curious beginners and seasoned art lovers alike, this series builds a strong foundation in the principles of art design, composition, and style. Participants will learn how these elements shape our experience of art and discover new ways to observe, interpret, and enjoy the work around us. With that groundwork in place, the class will move into focused sessions on landscapes, abstract art, portraiture, and photography. Each week offers guided conversation and close looking, helping you deepen your understanding of artistic choices and expand your capacity to see with intention. No previous art experience is needed, just an interest in learning and a desire to engage more fully with art. Sign up for the entire series, or choose a specific program that interests you! About the Instructor Kerry Cobb teaches adult education courses in art history, art appreciation, and literature, bringing an accessible and engaging approach to every subject she leads. She previously served as Executive Director of the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River and has long been an advocate for community arts education. | 2/27/2026 | About The Event Gentle Flow unfolds like a quiet walk through an art gallery. Each posture is approached as a curated piece, inviting you to move slowly and thoughtfully from one shape to the next, guided by the rhythm of your breath. The lighter, unhurried pace creates space to pause, observe, and fully experience each posture; much like standing before a work of art and taking in its details. This class is designed as an open gallery exploration, where strength and stretch, stability and ease, are in constant dialogue. With time to study alignment and balance, you're invited to develop a deeper understanding of how the body moves and holds itself, cultivating presence, curiosity, and a sense of quiet appreciation throughout your practice. Please bring a yoga mat, and wear comfortable clothing. more info... | ||||||||||||||
| 2/28/2026 | Experience the beauty of the winter Gorge from the warmth of the Discovery Center’s grand, river-facing windows. This February program brings the spirit of plein air painting indoors, offering artists a chance to observe and capture the subtle browns, whites, and atmospheric tones of the season without braving the cold. Led by Portland artist Jinnet Powel, this acrylic class invites participants to slow down, study the landscape, and approach winter painting as both creative exploration and a form of quiet meditation. Jinnet will guide students through two foundational plein air techniques: using preliminary thumbnail sketches to clarify composition, and working with a limited palette to build luminous, compelling winter scenes. This program takes place in the Discovery Center’s naturally lit lobby in front of their floor-to-ceiling windows, making it an ideal environment for direct observation and artistic focus. Your ticket includes full-day admission to the museum, allowing you to enjoy its exhibits before or after the class. To learn more about the instructor, visit www.jinnetpowel.com. more info... | ||||||||||||||
