This month for Power Breakfast we are welcoming Trevor Leahy from the Office of Small Business Assistance. He will give us an overview of what he does and how he can help your business succeed. Join teaching artist and muralist John Vance, to learn new art-making techniques while we create large, fantastic paintings, drawings and sculptures of fantastical creatures and magical worlds - all from your imagination! 

Campers will work on multiple take home projects over the course of the week while creating a large scale collaborative painting to be displayed outside the camp for the world to see!

Be sure to bring your own lunch and snacks.

Each artist will design an original artwork collaborating with a Community Partner and community members from their assigned stretch of river.  Artists will create unique installations, sculpture, and innovative designs attached to that specific site, and engage with educational opportunities to inspire and educate about fiber arts.  There will be resources developed, including maps and guides to encourage visitation to each site.  Each artwork will portray a section of the river itself and will connect to the next section. 

The project is inspired by the Surrealist art practice "Exquisite Corpse," where participants took turns drawing sections of a body on a piece of paper folded to hide each succession contribution.  When unfolded, a whole body was revealed to show each contribution.

In the case of The Exquisite Gorge Project II, the Columbia River will become the "body" that unifies the collaboration between artists and communities, revealing a 66-foot work that tells 10 conceptual stories (plus a frontispiece) of the Columbia River and its people. 

A culminating Festival of Fiber Arts will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Maryhill Museum of Art, where each free-standing "exquisite corpse" section will be brought together to reveal the continuous sculpture.

Developed by Curator of Education at Maryhill Museum of Art, Louise Palermo, The Exquisite Gorge Project II: Fiber Arts features 13 regional fiber artists working with communities along 220 miles of the Columbia River from the Willamette Confluence to the Snake River Confluence.

Artistic Director for the project is artist Tammy Jo Wilson. 

Each artist will design an original artwork collaborating with a Community Partner and community members from their assigned stretch of river.  Artists will create unique installations, sculpture, and innovative designs attached to that specific site, and engage with educational opportunities to inspire and educate about fiber arts.  There will be resources developed, including maps and guides to encourage visitation to each site.  Each artwork will portray a section of the river itself and will connect to the next section. 

The project is inspired by the Surrealist art practice "Exquisite Corpse," where participants took turns drawing sections of a body on a piece of paper folded to hide each succession contribution.  When unfolded, a whole body was revealed to show each contribution.

In the case of The Exquisite Gorge Project II, the Columbia River will become the "body" that unifies the collaboration between artists and communities, revealing a 66-foot work that tells 10 conceptual stories (plus a frontispiece) of the Columbia River and its people. 

A culminating Festival of Fiber Arts will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Maryhill Museum of Art, where each free-standing "exquisite corpse" section will be brought together to reveal the continuous sculpture.

Kicking off with the “Neon Cruise”, Friday evening, downtown The Dalles. It’s an “open” cruise, just like back in the day, so just show up and start showing off (NO burnouts however). It starts around 7pm and extends well into the night. This is the favorite part of the weekend for many of the locals, and the sidewalks up and down 2nd and 3rd streets fill up with appreciative and enthusiastic spectators. Several downtown businesses will be having special events during the cruise. You can also pre-register for the show at Burgerville on 3rd St. between 3 and 8 pm.

Saturday brings the “Riverfront Car Show”, an open event. The setting, Riverfront Park, is right off of I84, exit 85. A beautiful riverside venue with very easy access and plenty of parking on the grass. Registration opens at 8am, judging until 1pm, and the Parade of Champions awards ceremony beginning at 2pm. Goodie bags and dash plaques to the 1st 200 vehicles. $20 entry up to July 31, $25 after. 40+ awards, food and specialty vendors, oldies music and plenty of raffle prizes. Then Saturday evening features the Eagles Car Show/Dinner/Dance from 5 to 11pm at the lodge, 2006 W 7th, The Dalles.

Finally, if you want one more chance to trophy, there’s the Dufur Classic Car Show, on Sunday in the Dufur Community Park, just 13 miles South of The Dalles, starting at 9am.  Registration is 7-9am.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration among the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Indigenous Education Institute, the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and four Native Community partners.  The communities generously share their restoration stories and their voices throughout the exhibition.

Each artist will design an original artwork collaborating with a Community Partner and community members from their assigned stretch of river.  Artists will create unique installations, sculpture, and innovative designs attached to that specific site, and engage with educational opportunities to inspire and educate about fiber arts.  There will be resources developed, including maps and guides to encourage visitation to each site.  Each artwork will portray a section of the river itself and will connect to the next section. 

The project is inspired by the Surrealist art practice "Exquisite Corpse," where participants took turns drawing sections of a body on a piece of paper folded to hide each succession contribution.  When unfolded, a whole body was revealed to show each contribution.

In the case of The Exquisite Gorge Project II, the Columbia River will become the "body" that unifies the collaboration between artists and communities, revealing a 66-foot work that tells 10 conceptual stories (plus a frontispiece) of the Columbia River and its people.

Each artist will design an original artwork collaborating with a Community Partner and community members from their assigned stretch of river.  Artists will create unique installations, sculpture, and innovative designs attached to that specific site, and engage with educational opportunities to inspire and educate about fiber arts.  There will be resources developed, including maps and guides to encourage visitation to each site.  Each artwork will portray a section of the river itself and will connect to the next section. 

The project is inspired by the Surrealist art practice "Exquisite Corpse," where participants took turns drawing sections of a body on a piece of paper folded to hide each succession contribution.  When unfolded, a whole body was revealed to show each contribution.

In the case of The Exquisite Gorge Project II, the Columbia River will become the "body" that unifies the collaboration between artists and communities, revealing a 66-foot work that tells 10 conceptual stories (plus a frontispiece) of the Columbia River and its people. 

A culminating Festival of Fiber Arts will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Maryhill Museum of Art, where each free-standing "exquisite corpse" section will be brought together to reveal the continuous sculpture.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration among the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Indigenous Education Institute, the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and four Native Community partners.  The communities generously share their restoration stories and their voices throughout the exhibition.

The Northwest MuralFest is a five-day mural painting event held in The Dalles, OR, planned for August of 2022.  During the festival, 15 new historical murals will be created in the downtown area. 

Residents, volunteers and the business community are working on the festival creation in collaboration with the Walldogs, a group of mural painters that has come together in different towns all over the USA since 1993 to paint historical murals. 

The Northwest MuralFest will draw local residents and national visitors to our community, and help promote The Dalles as an art destination.  Along with the mural creations, we anticipate other contributors such as food, crafts and music vendors. 

The NW muralfest is for the whole family.  We are planning on a family mural designed by a local artist.  Artists of all ages from tykes to grandparents will be welcomed to work on the family mural.

Developed by Curator of Education at Maryhill Museum of Art, Louise Palermo, The Exquisite Gorge Project II: Fiber Arts features 13 regional fiber artists working with communities along 220 miles of the Columbia River from the Willamette Confluence to the Snake River Confluence.

Artistic Director for the project is artist Tammy Jo Wilson. 

Each artist will design an original artwork collaborating with a Community Partner and community members from their assigned stretch of river.  Artists will create unique installations, sculpture, and innovative designs attached to that specific site, and engage with educational opportunities to inspire and educate about fiber arts.  There will be resources developed, including maps and guides to encourage visitation to each site.  Each artwork will portray a section of the river itself and will connect to the next section. 

The project is inspired by the Surrealist art practice "Exquisite Corpse," where participants took turns drawing sections of a body on a piece of paper folded to hide each succession contribution.  When unfolded, a whole body was revealed to show each contribution.

In the case of The Exquisite Gorge Project II, the Columbia River will become the "body" that unifies the collaboration between artists and communities, revealing a 66-foot work that tells 10 conceptual stories (plus a frontispiece) of the Columbia River and its people. 

A culminating Festival of Fiber Arts will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Maryhill Museum of Art, where each free-standing "exquisite corpse" section will be brought together to reveal the continuous sculpture.

The Northwest MuralFest is a five-day mural painting event held in The Dalles, OR, planned for August of 2022.  During the festival, 15 new historical murals will be created in the downtown area. 

Residents, volunteers and the business community are working on the festival creation in collaboration with the Walldogs, a group of mural painters that has come together in different towns all over the USA since 1993 to paint historical murals. 

The Northwest MuralFest will draw local residents and national visitors to our community, and help promote The Dalles as an art destination.  Along with the mural creations, we anticipate other contributors such as food, crafts and music vendors. 

The NW muralfest is for the whole family.  We are planning on a family mural designed by a local artist.  Artists of all ages from tykes to grandparents will be welcomed to work on the family mural.

Explore how Native peoples join their traditional knowledge with cutting-edge Western science to save cultural practices and local environments.  Local ecosystems around the world face serious environmental challenges.  Many Native communities have found innovative solutions by combining traditional knowledge with modern science.  Roots of Wisdom:  Native Knowledge.  Shared Science features stories of ecological and cultural restoration from the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Tulalip Tribes, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and Native Hawaiians.

The project is inspired by the Surrealist art practice "Exquisite Corpse," where participants took turns drawing sections of a body on a piece of paper folded to hide each succession contribution.  When unfolded, a whole body was revealed to show each contribution.

In the case of The Exquisite Gorge Project II, the Columbia River will become the "body" that unifies the collaboration between artists and communities, revealing a 66-foot work that tells 10 conceptual stories (plus a frontispiece) of the Columbia River and its people. 

A culminating Festival of Fiber Arts will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Maryhill Museum of Art, where each free-standing "exquisite corpse" section will be brought together to reveal the continuous sculpture.

Roots of Wisdom:  Native Knowledge.  Shared Science.  

Explore how Native peoples join their traditional knowledge with cutting-edge Western science to save cultural practices and local environments.  Local ecosystems around the world face serious environmental challenges.  Many Native communities have found innovative solutions by combining traditional knowledge with modern science.  Roots of Wisdom:  Native Knowledge.  Shared Science features stories of ecological and cultural restoration from the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Tulalip Tribes, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and Native Hawaiians.  

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration among the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Indigenous Education Institute, the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and four Native Community partners.  The communities generously share their restoration stories and their voices throughout the exhibition.  

Roots of Wisdom:  Native Knowledge   Shared Science, was developed, produced, and circulated by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian.  The exhibition was made possible with funds provided by the National Science Foundation.

Developed by Curator of Education at Maryhill Museum of Art, Louise Palermo, The Exquisite Gorge Project II: Fiber Arts features 13 regional fiber artists working with communities along 220 miles of the Columbia River from the Willamette Confluence to the Snake River Confluence.

Artistic Director for the project is artist Tammy Jo Wilson. 

Each artist will design an original artwork collaborating with a Community Partner and community members from their assigned stretch of river.  Artists will create unique installations, sculpture, and innovative designs attached to that specific site, and engage with educational opportunities to inspire and educate about fiber arts.  There will be resources developed, including maps and guides to encourage visitation to each site.  Each artwork will portray a section of the river itself and will connect to the next section.
