Developed by Curator of Education at Maryhill Museum of Art, Louise Palermo, The Exquisite Gorge Project II: Fiber Arts features 13 regional fiber artists working with communities along 220 miles of the Columbia River from the Willamette Confluence to the Snake River Confluence.

Artistic Director for the project is artist Tammy Jo Wilson. 

Each artist will design an original artwork collaborating with a Community Partner and community members from their assigned stretch of river.  Artists will create unique installations, sculpture, and innovative designs attached to that specific site, and engage with educational opportunities to inspire and educate about fiber arts.  There will be resources developed, including maps and guides to encourage visitation to each site.  Each artwork will portray a section of the river itself and will connect to the next section. 

The project is inspired by the Surrealist art practice "Exquisite Corpse," where participants took turns drawing sections of a body on a piece of paper folded to hide each succession contribution.  When unfolded, a whole body was revealed to show each contribution.

In the case of The Exquisite Gorge Project II, the Columbia River will become the "body" that unifies the collaboration between artists and communities, revealing a 66-foot work that tells 10 conceptual stories (plus a frontispiece) of the Columbia River and its people. 

A culminating Festival of Fiber Arts will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Maryhill Museum of Art, where each free-standing "exquisite corpse" section will be brought together to reveal the continuous sculpture.  

Mid-Columbia Senior Center presents MAHJONG!  Every Thursday & Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.  

It's officially back!!  Come on down to the Senior Center and try your hand at Mahjong, a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century.  Beginners are welcome!!

BINGO is back every Thursday and Saturday!  Doors open at 4:00 pm.  Be ready to play by 5:30pm!  You'll have the chance to win some amazing cash prizes!  There are also concessions available from popcorn and candy to sandwiches and chips.  Enjoy an evening of fun while supporting the Center.

Little Monarchs is a comic book with a big story about the monarch butterfly and its importance to our environmental health. Join us to explore 35 original artworks from the book and meet the author – Northwest cartoonist Jonathan Case. He’ll be joined by naturalists from the Xerces Society for a program inside and outside on the grounds of the museum to help you begin a nature journal of your own. Case will lead us in drawing while Xerces Society entomologists will be on hand to help you identify specimens. Dress for inside and outside exploration. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Cost: FREE with museum admission; advance registration required.

Developed by Curator of Education at Maryhill Museum of Art, Louise Palermo, The Exquisite Gorge Project II: Fiber Arts features 13 regional fiber artists working with communities along 220 miles of the Columbia River from the Willamette Confluence to the Snake River Confluence.

Artistic Director for the project is artist Tammy Jo Wilson. 

Each artist will design an original artwork collaborating with a Community Partner and community members from their assigned stretch of river.  Artists will create unique installations, sculpture, and innovative designs attached to that specific site, and engage with educational opportunities to inspire and educate about fiber arts.  There will be resources developed, including maps and guides to encourage visitation to each site.  Each artwork will portray a section of the river itself and will connect to the next section. 

The project is inspired by the Surrealist art practice "Exquisite Corpse," where participants took turns drawing sections of a body on a piece of paper folded to hide each succession contribution.  When unfolded, a whole body was revealed to show each contribution.

In the case of The Exquisite Gorge Project II, the Columbia River will become the "body" that unifies the collaboration between artists and communities, revealing a 66-foot work that tells 10 conceptual stories (plus a frontispiece) of the Columbia River and its people. 

A culminating Festival of Fiber Arts will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Maryhill Museum of Art, where each free-standing "exquisite corpse" section will be brought together to reveal the continuous sculpture.

This free, all day event includes Native artisans and exhibitors, vendors, music, dance, storytelling, games and Cultural Demonstrations from our regional Native American community living along the Columbia River and beyond.

Diaz’s new book, Trust, is set during the roar of the 1920s around the Wall Street tycoon Benjamin Rask and his wife, Helen. Together, they have risen to the top of the world of seemingly endless wealth–all as a decade of excess and speculation draws to an end. But at what cost have they acquired their immense fortune? This is the mystery at the center of Bonds, a successful 1937 novel that all of New York seems to have read. Yet there are other versions of this tale of privilege and deceit.

Come with your knitting, crochet, needlework, spinning or weaving.  If it involves fabric or fiber, needles or hooks come join us!  Expert help for knitting and crochet available, learn a new craft, get pattern help, or learn to fix your mistake.  Project friendly snacks provided.  

Celebrate the expansion of All Together The Dalles beyond the mural!  We have been working hard with Karl Vercouteren, The City of The Dalles Community Development Department, and many volunteers to create a commemorative book and walking tour app.  Freebridge Brewing and Kainos Coffee are lending their support for TDAC through a special fundraising beer and coffee.  We will be celebrating the project and our community on Wednesday, September 28th, 7-9pm with live music with the Exit 84 Band.  We will have books, coffee, beer, and prints on hand.  Buy a raffle ticket to win a basket with book, coffee, growler, pint glasses and more!

It's officially back!!  Come on down to the Senior Center and try your hand at Mahjong, a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century.  Beginners are welcome!!

BINGO is back every Thursday and Saturday!  Doors open at 4:00 pm.  Be ready to play by 5:30pm!  You'll have the chance to win some amazing cash prizes!  There are also concessions available from popcorn and candy to sandwiches and chips.  Enjoy an evening of fun while supporting the Center.
