The Dalles Art Center (TDAC) is proud to present a captivating new exhibit showcasing original artwork of conservation species featured in Angela Goldsmith’s latest book, Curious Animals of the Pacific Northwest. This unique collection highlights the beauty and diversity of the region’s wildlife through stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Blending the written word with captivating artwork, this exhibit showcases original sketches and paintings from Angela D. Goldsmith’s newly published book, Curious Animals of the Pacific Northwest. Through whimsical yet scientifically accurate illustrations, each story offers a thoughtful moral, woven through the lens of permaculture.
Goldsmith’s book, along with her previously published chapbook series, presents six richly detailed tales. In just ten minutes, readers will discover a conservation species, learn a fascinating fact or two, and pick up a new word or phrase—all while enjoying an engaging narrative. This work defies traditional categorization, seamlessly blending science, nature, art, and poetry into a singular experience.
The series features stunning artwork, with each chapter illustrated by a different Portland artist. This exhibition includes original artwork, high-quality reproductions, the original hand-bound studio-printed chapbooks, and Curious Animals of the Pacific Northwest: Volume I.
Exhibit Highlights:

Join Curator of Education Sorcha Meek Paul for Slow Art Day in a lively discussion while looking closely at two paintings in our collection. Slow art requires the viewer to slow down and take the time to really look and delve deeply. Looking creates dialogue which then reveals details, understanding, and life-long skills for looking at and connecting with art and art museums. No experience necessary. Included with general admission.

In an art world too often driven by money or the latest technology (NFTs, for example), Slow Art Day is passionately retro. We advocate an ancient practice – one at least as old as the paleolithic cave paintings in Lascaux, France – and that is this: slow down and look.

🌎 2nd Annual Riverfront Trail Clean-Up 🌿
Hosted by Columbia Gorge Conservation Group
📅 Earth Day – April 22, 2025
🕘 Meet at 9:00 AM | Klindt’s Cove
🔗 columbiagorgeconservation.com
Last year was a huge success—thanks to YOU, our amazing volunteers, we removed 60 lbs of trash from the riverfront trail! 💪 This year, we're aiming to double our impact—whether in pounds collected or area covered. Hopefully, there’s less trash and more trail, but either way, we’re showing up to get it done. 💚
All ages welcome! Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
We'll provide trash bags—please bring your own gloves, grabbers, and weather-ready gear.
👟 Good walking shoes are highly recommended!
🌱 Why It Matters:
Community clean-ups aren't just about picking up litter—they're a direct action that protects local wildlife, prevents plastic pollution from reaching the Columbia River, and keeps our shared spaces safe and beautiful for everyone. A cleaner trail boosts tourism, supports local businesses, and builds pride in the place we all call home. ✨
💸 Help Us Keep It Going!
These events run on heart—and your support.
Donations help us restock supplies like bags and PPE, and grow our outreach. Every dollar makes a difference.
➡️ Donate today at columbiagorgeconservation.com
Let’s protect this place together. See you on the trail! 🛶♻️
