ABOUT THE VENUE
About the Fairgrounds
The Wasco County Fairgrounds and W.E. Hunt Park are located in Tygh Valley, Oregon. The fairgrounds are home to the annual Wasco County Fair, which has been held here since 1937 when it was merged with the Southern Wasco County Fair. When not in use for the fair, the park and fairgrounds host a variety of events from the Bluegrass Jamboree in the fall to church camps in the spring.
W.E. Hunt Park
Hunt Park was originally owned by W.E. "Billy" Hunt and family. After his death in 1937, Mrs. Hunt and her children donated the 40 acres to Wasco County to serve as a park. It still bears his name as a memorial.

North Central Public Health District (NCPHD) is excited to partner with Oregon Health Authority (OHA) at this yearâs Wasco County Childrenâs Fair to educate the public about the dangers of lead poisoning. OHA is offering free, confidential lead screening for soil and childrenâs toys on May 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Childrenâs Fair at The Dalles City Park.Did you know? Although lead is invisible to the naked eye and has no smell, exposure to lead can seriously harm a childâs health? Young children tend to put their hands, toys, or other objectsâwhich may be made of lead or contaminated with lead or lead dustâinto their mouths.
Collecting soil to bring for testing is easy. All you need is a plastic zip-close bag and spoon. For this event, prepare at least 2 cups of dry soil taken from your yard, play area, or garden. Soil must be dry before the event and placed in clear plastic baggies, so dig your sample a few days before the event.
If you want to test your childrenâs toys, they should be made from plastic or wood, have a smooth, flat surface, and be at least 2âx2â in size.
Screening results are confidential and provided same-day!
If lead is detected, we will share practical low-cost or no-cost exposure prevention tips and safe gardening advice for the whole family. Visit Oregon Health Authorityâs soil screening webpage at www.oregon.gov/soilshoporegon to learn more about how to prepare your samples.

What is the Wall of Wine?
The Wall of Wine is a fun way to donate to TDAC. Local artists have painted paper wine bags with unique designs. Each bag contains a bottle of wine. The wine could be worth $35 or over $250. The fun part is not knowing which wine you've purchased until you get home. Due to state liquor laws your wine box cannot be opened on site. You'll purchase your wine box and pick it up when you check out.

"Whether you're on a solo adventure or exploring with family and friends, your smartphone can be an indispensable travel companion," said Sarah Pearson, Area VP at UScellular. "From recommending useful apps to assisting in choosing budget-friendly international data plans, our tech experts are here to offer guidance and suggestions on how to make your upcoming journey both safe and memorable."
UScellular offers the following tech tips for those who are traveling alone or with friends and family.
- Download Maps: Did you know Google Maps offers the ability to download maps and access them offline, saving you mobile data while traveling? After you download an area, use Google Maps just like you normally would and the offline map will guide you to your destination. Just make sure the entire route is within the offline map. Don't forget to invest in a portable charger like the Mophie PowerStation to keep your phone charged while on-the-go.
- Secure your Device: Before leaving, backup important data â including emergency contacts, photos, documentation and settings within your apps â to the iCloud, Google Drive, or an external storage device to prevent data loss if your phone gets lost or damaged. Also consider using a strong password, fingerprint or facial recognition to unlock your device.
- Donât trust public Wi-Fi: Youâll often have access to free Wi-Fi at your hotel, restaurant or even retail stores. While this access is convenient, it may not always be safe. Hackers can use public Wi-Fi to gain access to your data, so itâs safer to use a secure cellular connection or a VPN.
- Stay Updated on Travel Advisories: Subscribe to free apps, alerts and programs like the Red Cross Mobile App to stay informed about any emergencies, natural disasters or threats in your destination area.
- Put your Phone in US Mode: While your phone can be a vital travel tool, you may want to have uninterrupted relaxation time while on your trip. Once you reach your destination, put your phone in US Mode so you can limit notifications and enjoy your time away without distraction.
